The planting continues in the northwest field. Sam and Hope are using a Hatfield planter, a tool that cuts the holes in the black plastic mulch, digs the hole. One person works the handles of the planter, and the other drops the plant down through the red tube and into the hole. Beth is following behind them and placing dirt around each plant. It is simple automation and very sustainable. It runs with good old fashioned elbow grease. Tomatoes, peppers, cabbage and herb plants are among the things planted with this method. We even used it to plant pumpkin and squash seeds.
Robin and Ashley are tucking dirt around the pepper plants. Robin has been farming for most of her life and sets a fast pace. Everyone does their best to keep up with the pro.
If the temperatures
stay cool the plant growth slows down. Consistent warmer temps will promote steady
growth. That's why it is hard to predict exactly when our first delivery will be. Watch
the blog and the weather for more information.
Please join us for the festival this Sunday.
We'd love to see you here!
